Every year, the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame (HSHF) recognizes and celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of world-class Hawaiian athletes. Nominees from around the state are selected for the prestigious honor of being inducted into the HSHF. This year, the gala will include the recognition of the winners of the annual US Triathlon Multisport Awards, Department of State and Athlete of the Year awards, awarded by Wahoo Fitness. Kui was named ILH Player of the Year in 1985 in men's basketball, which helped Maryknoll win its first state championship in that sport.
She was asked to speak to a global audience at the International Olympic Committee about sports diplomacy and the role of sport in empowering women and girls. Steve Sutherland, president of the Executive Committee of the U. S. Triathlon Hall of Fame, said: “For many athletes, qualifying for this race is the highlight of their triathlon career.”Kui's lifelong struggle for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls may have its origins in playing on Punahou's first women's soccer team, when she joined the sport in her second year.
He was also selected by the HHSAA for the Nissan Hall of Honor and an athlete in two sports, in addition to labeling in American football. The Punahou Athletics Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant contributions to athletics in Punahou. McLachlin and his younger brother, Spencer '07, are the first siblings to be inducted into the Punahou Athletics Hall of Fame together that same year. The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame is Hawaii's State Museum of Sports History that records and celebrates outstanding achievements by Hawaiian athletes. This year, it will also recognize winners from US Triathlon Multisport Awards, Department of State and Athlete of the Year awards, awarded by Wahoo Fitness.
Additionally, it will honor those who have made significant contributions to athletics in Punahou with its Punahou Athletics Hall of Fame. The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame was also established as a perfect fit (with the Polynesian Cultural Center). It is a great honor for any athlete to be inducted into any one of these Halls of Fame. The induction ceremonies are held annually and are a great way to recognize and celebrate these remarkable athletes.
